Australian Wallcovering Manufacturers (AWM) was established in Sydney in c1972 by the husband and wife team of Dick and Adrienne Barrington together with partner Geoffrey McNaughton to manufacture wallpapers primarily for the local market. They employed the most up-to-date photogravure technology, a printing technique not previously used in Australia. By 1975, the company advertised ‘Vindec – easy strip, Duralon and Vinlon vinyl and vinyl coated wallcoverings’. Their largest range, known as ‘The Cottage Collection’, was released in c1979 and included co-ordinated fabrics and paints. By this date they also claimed to have secured 20% of the Australian wallcovering market, producing ranges both for themselves and other distributors.
‘Washable, ready pasted, fully trimmed, grease resistant, ideal for kitchens and bathrooms.’
