Provenance: This catalogue is inscribed by Samuel Lazar, owner of the Theatre Royal Sydney, and was given to Sydney-based theatrical scenic artist, W.J. Wilson, in 1875. It is probable that the catalogue was acquired for the construction of the Theatre Royal in 1875 and then passed onto Wilson. The artist was employed to work on the theatre’s ceiling and it is interesting to speculate whether Wilson then used this decoration source as a model for his theatre backdrops.
